Haldane Martin has created a distinctive, glamorous retail store for South African fashion label Hip Hop. The design concept draws on the brand’s signature soft pink identity and rose logo, highlighting the brand’s sophisticated, feminine identity. This translates into an interior with classical details that come to life in a contemporary way.
The interior is accentuated by a soft pink fabric installation that frames the space. This takes the shape of a blown-up classical cornice, laser cut from sheer fabric and backlit to add a glowing ambience. A spherical seating island creates a comfortable, relaxing environment. Above this a large-scale rose illustration adorns the ceiling, creating a unique centrepoint artwork. Clothing rails wrap around the room, encouraging customers to circulate, with garments arranged to facilitate both browsing and display. Generous changing rooms with large mirrors, an ottoman, and ample space for three ladies make trying on clothing a fun an intimate experience. A large mirror outside creates a strategic focal point emphasised by rounded archways.
White-washed French Oak Herringbone floors create a natural warmth. An onsite storeroom allows for all garments to have stock in every size. At the storefront a raised plinth showcases nine mannequins, which are instrumental in creating best-sellers.
This unique interior for Hip Hop is emblematic of the award-winning design studio’s innovation in commercial and retail design, once again crafting a powerful concept into a singular space that sets the brand far above its competitors.
