Sim-ply chair collection: the new HALDANE MARTIN Endless Forms Most Beautiful line

Haldane Martin has designed a new chair collection called Sim-ply, marking the launch of the furniture range Haldane Martin Endless Forms Most Beautiful. The new collection of on-trend hospitality and residential furniture, which will be presented at Design Joburg in May 2017, are a significant departure from the signature Haldane Martin furniture collection and limited-edition pieces.

Named after a quote by evolutionist Charles Darwin, Endless Forms Most Beautiful is ideologically the complementary opposite of Haldane Martin’s Iconic Design philosophy. Instead of striving to create ground-breaking revolutionary designs, Endless Forms Most Beautiful is about taking existing furniture typologies and manufacturing techniques and evolving them to create well-considered, balanced pieces that are beautiful, comfortable, well made, economical, eco-friendly, on trend, locally manufactured and available in customer-specific bespoke finish options.

Aimed at interior designers and the hospitality market, the new range offers high quality, environmentally conscious South African design at affordable price points. The Sim-ply collection includes a dining chair, a lounge chair with arms, and a barstool. The Sim-ply collection name is derived from the simple curved plywood seats, backs and arms. The collection is visually distinctive for its simple rounded forms, cute proportions, friendly finishes and an unusually wide backrest that hugs the sitter. A range of café tables, dining tables, coffee tables and side tables with similar rounded forms and materials will be added to the Sim-ply collection shortly.

Various customised combinations of plywood and padded seats, backs and arms can be created. Made from durable, long-lasting materials, the chairs have solid hardwood legs and frame, with seats and backrests made from birch plywood. All connections are joined with machine screws. Bespoke finishes are available for interior designers and decorators. The birch plywood seats and backs are veneered in ash or sprayed in any of the 9500 Standard NCS colours in an open grain satin finish. The upholstered seat, back and arm pads come in a wide range of colourful velvets (from the Home Fabrics Chamonix velvet fabric collection of 53 colours) and customers may also supply their own fabric or leather.

The Endless Forms Most Beautiful line is being sold directly from HALDANE MARTIN Iconic Furniture with a four-week lead time. All prices, finishes options, CAD Models and drawings, sizes and packing information will be made available on haldanemartin.co.za.

“Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.”

― Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species
